   Language Arts - We have six themes. Theme 1 - Oink! Oink! Oink! - Students get to enjoy and read three different fractured tale of "The Three Little Pigs" Theme 2 - Community Ties - Students get to read about stories that teach students how a community needs to work together to become successful. Theme 3 - Disaster - This theme seems to be the favorite, because students get to read and study the biggest disaster of the 20th Century; The Titanic. Students also get to read about some other natural and human disasters. Theme 4 - What's Cooking - Students read and learn about the importance of food to different cultures. Theme 5 - Weather Watch - Students learn about different weather patterns and read story that are set during severe weather. Theme 6 - What A Day! - These stories are basically enjoyable, fun stories. One of the favorite stories is "Ramona the Pest".

    Science Units - We have 4 different units. Human Body - Students learn about the skeleton and muscular systems of the body. Earth Materials - Students learn about the difference between rocks and minerals. Students learn that rocks are made up of different minerals. Chemical Tests - Students learn how to observe and list properties of different chemicals. Students learn experiments to conduct on the chemicals in order to identify a given powder. Solar System - Students learn about what makes up our Solar System. 

     In October, Third grade students get to enjoy a Mini Muster during Fire Prevention Week. The Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company brings out their equipment and the students compete in different events using the equipment. There are usually three events. The Bucket Brigade - Students race with buckets full of water to see which team can fill up a barrel the fastest. The Equipment Relay - Students must learn different fire equipment pieces and race to retrieve different pieces. The Stop Sign Race - Students use a large fire hose and attempt to aim the hose at a stop sign and try to knock it down with a stream of water. The fastest attempt wins.
