- The
counseling program at East Millsboro is multi-faceted. Classroom
visits are done weekly which focus on social skills, academic study skills,
and career counseling. Individual and small group counseling are done
daily to foster social and emotional development. Higher academic
achievement, success in school, positive behavior, and a strong self-esteem
are goals of the program.
-
"Positive Connections" is the title of the mentoring program which
has proven to be very effective in improving students' self
worth. Teachers, business people, and community citizens
volunteer their time once a week to help children build a positive
relationship with a caring adult. If you are interested in becoming a
mentor, call (302) 934-3222 or 934-3228 and ask for Kim Taylor.
-
Consultation is done during and after school in referring and placing
students in programs or services to meet their individual needs.
-
School-wide behavior programs are run by the school counselor such as the
"Cafeteria Caught You Being Good Program", the hallway behavior
"Class of the Week" program, and weekly "Thoughts of the
Week".

SCHOOL
PSYCHOLOGIST - Mrs.
Sharon Adams

School
psychologists have specialized training in both psychology and
education. They use their training and skills to team with
educators, parents, and other mental health professionals to ensure that
every child learns in a safe, healthy and supportive environment.
School psychologists understand school systems, effective teaching and
successful learning. Today's children face more challenges than
ever before. School psychologists can provide solutions for
tomorrow's problems through thoughtful and positive actions today.

FAMILY
THERAPIST - Mr. Anthony Williams

I am the K-3 Early Intervention Therapist. The K-3 Program
addresses issues within the home which effect performance in the
classroom. The goal is to enable families to support the social

will help attain a positive outlook in school. This innovative
program is a collaborative effort between the Dept. of Services for
Children, Youth, and Their Families (DSCYF), the Dept. of Education
(DOE), the Division of Family Services (DFS), and participating public
school districts. Services provided include: individual
counseling; play therapy; conflict resolution; family counseling; and
the Carol Webster-Stratton Parenting groups.

SPEECH
THERAPIST - Mrs. Debbie O'Neal

As speech
therapist at East Millsboro, I diagnose and treat children for a variety
of speech problems. These include: inability to make speech sounds
or not making them clearly; stuttering; fluency; and rhythm
problems. I also work with family members on treatment techniques
to use at home and on how to modify behavior that impedes
communication. I monitor the progress of my students very
closely. Speech therapy is a painstaking process, but it is very
rewarding. Overcoming a speech problem is very beneficial in
raising a child's self-esteem and confidence.
